History of the Chattanooga/LaFayette Community
The Chattanooga/Lafayette Emmaus Community was started in
1989, from the parent community in Cleveland, Tennessee, and the grandparent
community in Hinton, North Carolina. Attendance at the first community
gatherings approximated twenty to thirty. Verner Ellis was our first community
lay director, with the first walk (Men's Walk) being held in the fall of 1989.
At that time, four walks adult walks a year were scheduled.
Today the community has grown to well over 1,000
members offering five walks for adults, two Chrysalis flights each year.
